Should I Scrub, Peel, or Masque?

Should I scrub, peel or masque?

If you think your skin is too sensitive for an exfoliating scrub, peel or masque, think again. Exfoliation has benefits for every skin type.

Why Exfoliate?
Exfoliation removes dead skin cells from pores, revealing fresh skin cells and making the pores appear smaller. Not only will your skin look fresh and smooth, but your makeup will also look better. And once the build-up is removed, your skin’s ability to absorb everything that follows, from acne treatments to your anti-aging regimen, is enhanced.

Dry Skin
If your skin is dry, it could be the build-up of dead skin cells that are inhibiting the absorption of your moisturizer. Your natural skin oils can also get trapped by this build-up, causing skin bumps and blemishes. An exfoliant can dissolve the bonds between dead cells, revealing fresher skin that is more easily moisturized. This applies to dry skin everywhere on the body, not just your face. An exfoliating body scrub will do wonders for dry skin, especially in the Winter. Always be sure to follow any exfoliating treatment with a hydrating body lotion or moisturizer. We suggest our Celloxylin® Enzyme Activated Micro Scrub for face and body, followed by Celloxylin® PSR Next [Precision Skin Rejuvenator] for face and Celloxylin® Hydro-Burst Moisture Intense Lotion for body.

Acne-prone Skin
Steer clear of abrasive scrubs with acne-prone skin, as they can further irritate skin and cause breakouts. Instead, use a scrub that gently cleanses skin, or a chemical exfoliant with acids such as Alpha Hydroxy (AHA), Glycolic, Lactic or Salicylic Acids which penetrate oil to break down pore-clogging dead skin cells, like Apriori Beauty’s Celloxylin® MD 20EX Acid Peel.

Sensitive Skin
Like acne-prone skin, steer clear of abrasive scrubs with large, rough chunks that don’t dissolve easily. And unlike acne-prone skin, also steer clear of chemical exfoliants using acids that may cause more irritation than it’s worth. A soothing clay masque could be your best bet, like Apriori Beauty’s Celloxylin® Pure Detox, Purifying clay Masque.

Combination Skin
Much like your skin, you’re lucky enough to be able to use any combination of exfoliants. You have options and can choose the type that makes your skin feel the best. Or, switch it up and alternate from a scrub, to a masque to a peel at your whim.

Aging Skin
Even though older skin tends to be more sensitive, it is in more need of exfoliation than younger skin. As we age, our natural skin cell turnover slows down causing build-up to increase. To help your skin’s natural cellular renewal and to allow beneficial ingredients to penetrate skin more efficiently, exfoliation should remain a step in your regular skincare regimen throughout life!
